How to Find Contacts on Instagram
Instagram is currently among the leading social media platforms, and the app has gotten to be so much more than just a photo/video sharing platform, like it used to be.
People are turning to Instagram to promote their shops, businesses, art and so much more, so much so Instagram’s major perk - creating connections (followers) appears to have saved a lot of small businesses, especially since COVID happened.
Since establishing connections and gaining followers is crucial in order to gain success on the platform, it is important to know every possible way to search for people you might know.
Besides the good old ‘Recommendations’ section, there are plenty of other ways to find people you might know on Instagram - from other users’ posts/stories, the ‘Explore’ page, ‘Search Bar’ or Facebook friends.
However, at times, it happens that you’re trying to find someone you’re close to on Instagram, but you can’t seem to find them.
The reason behind this might be that they haven’t used their real name, and there is a solution to this.
Most Instagram users connect their phone numbers to their Instagram profiles as a safety measure. If that user’s phone number is in your contacts list, you will be able to find their Instagram profile - and we will show you how.
How can I find my contacts on Instagram?
In order to find your contacts on Instagram, two things will be required of you - connecting your phone number to Instagram, and syncing your contacts.
As we mentioned, to find a person on Instagram solely from their phone number, they will need to have their phone number connected to Instagram, as well.
Connecting your phone number to Instagram
Connecting your phone number to Instagram has the same steps for both Android and iOS users.
- Open the Instagram app on your phone.
- Go to your profile by clicking the icon in the bottom-right corner.
- In the upper-right corner, click on the hamburger menu, and from the drop-down, select ‘Discover People’.
- You’ll see two options - ‘Connect to Facebook’ and ‘Connect Contacts’.
- To connect your phone number, you will need the second option, click on it.
- A pop-up window will show up, asking for access to your contacts list. Click ‘Allow’.
After connecting your contacts list, browse through ‘Top Suggestions’, and most of your contacts that are on Instagram will show up. If you choose to ‘See All’ - both your ‘Top Suggestions’ and ‘Most Mutual Connections’ will show up as suggestions.
Another way to get more recommendations for Instagram, you can choose to link your Facebook to your Instagram, and it will show all your Facebook friends who are on Instagram.
Additional Info
As we previously mentioned, some contacts may not show up in your Top Suggestions.
There are a few possible reasons why:
- The user doesn’t have their phone number connected.
- You have a different number connected, not the one you have in your contacts list.
- The user is not on Instagram at all.
- The user has deleted their Instagram account
However, if you have a certain someone on your mind that you’re trying to find, if you’re either friends with them on Facebook, or have their phone number - contact them directly to ask for their Instagram username, or send them the link to your Instagram profile.
