Messenger is used by a big number of users monthly. However, the attachment sending feature is a bit well hidden, making it hard for college students who need to share their files with one another, or even for companies who have resorted to using Messenger as well.

When using Messenger from the desktop version, the attaching feature is much more visible and easily accessible, but what about when you’re using the app from a mobile device?

Keep reading to find out how to send attachments in Messenger.

How to send files in Messenger from Desktop

Sending files in messenger is easily done when using the Desktop version. You can send a single file or you can send multiple files on Facebook Messenger.

However, doing this from your mobile device cannot be done when logging in from the browser, since the messenger app is not responsive in the mobile browser version.

  1. Log into your Facebook account.
  2. In the bar on top, in the upper right part of your screen, click on the Messenger icon.
  3. Open the chat of the person you want to share files with, or just type in their name in the Search box.
  4. Once you’ve opened the chatbox of the user, in the bottom left corner of the chat, there will be a ‘+’ icon.
  5. Click on the ‘+’, and navigate to the paper clip icon. This will open the option to send files of your choice. Can be different types of files: PDF, Word, Excel or PowerPoint documents. Find the files you want to send and select them.
  6. Once you’ve selected all the files you need to share, tap the send button.

Sharing documents using the Desktop Messenger version is truly simple, in contrast to the mobile version. Currently, there is no paper clip icon integrated into the mobile versions of the app, for iOS or Android. However, some Android phones have a way around this.

How to send files in Messenger from Android

To send files in Messenger from an Android, you’ll need to navigate to a different app instead of Messenger.

  1. In your menu of the Android device, open ‘Files’.
  2. Most of the ‘Files’ apps in Androids have a ‘Search’ field, so you can try typing in the name of the document you need to share.
  3. Once you’ve found it, tap and hold the document.
  4. Click on the ‘Share’ icon that will show up somewhere on the screen, for most Android devices it’s at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Scroll through the apps, and find Messenger.
  6. Select it, and in the ‘Search’ bar within the app, type in the name of the user you want to share your files with.

Unfortunately, iOS users still do not have a way on how to share files using Messenger, and even some Androids cannot share files with the steps we mentioned in the previous section. If you’re an iOS user, or if your Android does not allow you to share files, the next best solution would be for you to transfer your files on your PC or laptop, and send them using Messenger’s desktop version.
